Thanks be to God…

…the new Law School chapel will have pews and kneelers.
I saw them with my own two eyes, I promise!

The Conversion of St. Paul

Happy Sunday!
This morning I had the privilege of serving at the 10.00am Mass at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart.  Thanks to the permission granted by the Holy Father, we, like most of the Church, observed the Conversion of St. Paul, which providentially happened to fall on a Sunday in this Pauline Year.
His Excellency Archbishop [...]

‘We are ND, We are Pro-life’

On Thursday, January 22, the thirty-sixth anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, I joined the Notre Dame community for the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C.  After a long bus ride beginning Wednesday night, we arrived in the nation’s capital, had breakfast at St. Agnes Parish, attended Holy Mass at Immaculate Conception [...]

Prayers, please…

In a few hours I will be leaving for Washington, D.C. and the March for Life.  Please say a prayer for safe travel and softened hearts.

Blessed Basil

Today at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart I attended the 5:15 feastday Mass of Blessed Basil Anthony Moreau, founder of the Congregation of Holy Cross.  Celebrated with great solemnity, the Mass was well attended by students, faculty, and the usual community members.  What was most special, however, was the impressive number of Holy Cross [...]

Most high God, blessed and wonderful Savior, ever-present Holy Spirit, precious Lord, whose glory is in all the world, we commend this nation to your compassionate and merciful care.  As we are guided by your providence, may we dwell secure in your peace.  Grant to the President of the United States your wisdom and strength [...]

‘Ut omnes unum sint’

Today marks the beginning of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.   All Christians should feel the pains of separation and work towards the unity which Christ desired for His Church.  In this year of St. Paul, look to the Apostle to the Gentiles and pray for the conversion of souls and the reconciliation of [...]

Home under the Dome

I’ve just finished my first week back with the Dame and She’s looking more beautiful than ever.  For the Domers among you, I’m certain that we all share the same sentiment about the return to campus, but of course, such a feeling can never be explained to the non-Irish.  Cliche of the day: ‘There’s no [...]

The wisdom of this world

I saw a sign today that read: ‘Live as if this is all there is.’
This is it, huh?
War.
Poverty.
Division.
Calamities.
Sin.
Restlessness.
If this is all there is, I want out.
Remember the Savior’s words: ‘Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, [...]

‘I may not see her ever again, but I’m gonna die trying…’

I was spinning through my iPod a few weeks ago and came across one Ari Hest in the ‘Arists’ list.  Perhaps it’s happened to you before, but I had no idea how he got onto my iPod; he was just there.  (Now that i think about it, though, I’m pretty sure I got the album [...]

The springtime studium

My inbox is flooded with delivery confirmations from bookstores all over the country, so it must mean two things: 1) my textbooks for the spring semester are on the way; 2) the hiatus from assigned reading is coming to a fast and unwelcome end.  In any case, I’m pretty excited for the upcoming semester and [...]
