Is it true? (Updated; updated again)

There is news on campus that Archbishop Timothy Dolan of New York is coming to Notre Dame in October and celebrating Mass at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart.  If true, this would be very exciting news indeed.
Update: Heeeee’s cooooooming…

Update (again): False alarm.  For someone unknown reason, he couldn’t make it.  But the music prepared [...]

The Ladder of St. Augustine

Saint Augustine! well hast thou said,
That of our vices we can frame
A ladder, if we will but tread
Beneath our feet each deed of shame!
All common things, each day’s events,
That with the hour begin and end,
Our pleasures and our discontents,
Are rounds by which we may ascend.
The low desire, the base design,
That makes [...]

Feast of Saint Monica

For in your providence your hands, my God, did not forsake my soul.  By my mother’s tears night and day sacrifice was being offered to you from the blood of her heart, and you dealt with me in wonderful ways.

Home sweet home

Fret not, dear readers, I am alive and well.
(1)  After an interesting but fun eleven-week internship in Illinois, I am once again home with the parents, convalescing, stuffing my face with home-cooked food, and unpacking (only to re-pack in a few more weeks).  It’s good to be home.
(2) I decided that since I have almost [...]

The Cigar-smoking Saint

Take a good look, because this image just may be on a holy card some day soon.
Apparently, the Chesterton Society in England recently announced its intention to promote the cause for the canonization of their namesake, renowned Catholic writer G.K. Chesterton.  (The folks over at NLM published on this today.)
After searching around for details, I [...]

Wanna join?

I found this during one of my late-at-night strolls through the theology stacks at Hesburgh Library.  How would a membership in this group go over if it appeared on your resume or curriculum vitae?

Sonnet LXVIII
Most glorious Lord of lyfe that on this day,
Didst make thy triumph over death and sin:
And having harrowd hell didst bring away,
Captivity thence captive us to win.
This joyous day, deare Lord, with joy begin,
And grant that we for whom thou didest dye
Being with thy deare blood clene washt from sin,
May live for ever in [...]

12 April 2009

Ressurexit sicut dixit, alleluia!
Wishing you and yours a blessed and grace-filled Easter.  May the Risen One illuminate our hearts and draw us all away from this world’s darkness and unto His own glorified Heart.  And may Mary, Mother of the Risen Lord Jesus, and the women who first sang of His rising, rejoice with us [...]

11 April 2009

The tabernacle in the dormitory chapel sits upon the stripped altar, open, empty and unadorned.  How stark is the sight!  This vessel in which Our Lord is daily held captive as a prisoner for us is today lifeless, is now Love-less.  How comforting this dwelling place has been: surrounded with flowers, veiled in linen, accompanied [...]

The Sacred Triduum

A blessed Triduum to one and all.  May these days of grace be for us a wellspring of faith and a time of spiritual renewal.
I will remember you all in prayer throughout the coming days.
